Sony Walkman MP3 Player Giveaway (and review... but mostly just giveaway)

What seems like a million years ago, I was contacted by the awesome people at Sony to try out their W Series Walkman® MP3 Player.  It all came about because Jeff at the Detroit Runner was hosting a giveaway in which he (erroneously) said that the player was not compatible with Mac computers (because, I believe he read something in the fine print that led him to believe so).  Being a Mac aficionado myself I commented something along the lines of, "Wow, that's really lame."

Actually here is the exact comment:

When the Sony gurus saw my comment they quickly sent me an email to let me know that the Walkman® does in fact work with Macs and to prove it, they wanted to send me one to try out.  Needless to say, I was super excited.  A short while later (like seriously less than a week) I received a package in the mail that contained my new Walkman® and two additional ones to giveaway!!  Which is what I am here doing now... only like 3 months after the fact.

I'm not really sure what has taken me so long to get this going other than life is busy (and I'm a professional procrastinator) and as excited as I was to be hosting the giveaway I just never seemed to find the right time.  Well, there is no time like the present.

I don't listen to music much (or really ever) when I run.  For the most part, this is because I'm usually pushing a stroller and I enjoy the sweet serenade of my beautiful angels (ha ha ha).  Also, the few times that I have run with my iPod, I end up getting frustrated with the cords and the earphones.  When I finally decided to try out the Walkman®, it was my first time running with music in probably close to 5 years or maybe even more.  I chose an 18 mile run to test it on.  I did the first 6 miles without the music and the plugged myself in for the final 12 miles.  Oh. My.  Goodness.  Now I know why people run with music.  It was amazing.  It was like I entered a warp zone and instantly had fresh legs and the ability  to run at the speed of light.  Okay, so I wasn't really that fast, but I did actually pick up my pace considerably.

Now I realize it was the music more than the Walkman® that made me feel great, but the Walkman® was the reason that I had the music so it was directly responsible for my feelings of euphoria.  The thing I like about the W Series Walkman® is that it comes with three different ear bud sizes, so you should be good even if you have huge old man ears or little tiny elf ears.
These are the small and large options.  It comes with medium attached.
Once I put it on to run I didn't feel the need to adjust it at all... and almost forgot that it was there.  I love that there are no cords and that it holds a pretty decent sized amount of music, more than enough for the 12 miles I ran with it.

As for being Mac compatible, it was super easy.  All I had to do was plug it in to my computer with the cord it came with
then drag music from my iTunes library to the Walkman folder on my desktop.  Easy Peasy.  If you aren't a cool Mac user then when you plug it in you will download some software to your PC and upload music from there... pretty easy too I believe.

I also love that it is fairly descrete, as in "ha, ha, my kids don't even know that I've literally tuned them out"

Also, if you get tired of wearing it while running, it can double as a super fashionable necklace:

If you'd like a really good review, you should check out Jeff's, HERE,  he really did a great job.  Or, if you'd like to just win one and try it out yourself then that's cool too.

So, up for grabs are 2, as in one for each of you, Sony W Series Walkmans.  All you have to do, is answer the following question:

If you could only listen to 1 song for the rest of your life, what would that song be?  Leave me a comment and let me know.

I asked Dan and after a few seconds, he responded, well, THIS ONE, of course.  Of course!  It doesn't get much cooler than that, especially with the totally rad video.  :)

The contest will run through July 4th (which is when I'll be back from vacation) and then I'll randomly pick two winners on the 5th.  Good luck!!

disclaimer:  Sony provided me with the walkmans® to giveaway.  The review is entirely mine.  And yes, I did have fun entering in all the ®

I shouldn't be number one because it is never picked but oh well. My song would be "Never ending song of Love". It is Calvin and My song and has been putting a smile on my face every time I hear it for over 40 years and I never get tired of hearing it. SO PICK NUMBER ONE PLEASE.

Motivation by Kelly Roland. I'm just really digging the beat at the moment.

I love On the Floor by Jennifer Lopez. It totally keeps me motivated.

Oh man...that's a tough one! Probably Van Morrison-Someone Like You...or Temper Trap-Sweet Disposition....or Pearl Jam-Black... :)

I am super fickle about music, so that's a really tough question. It wouldn't be so hot for running, but I really love Simon and Garfunkel, so I'm thinking maybe Homeward Bound or something like that. But ask me in 5 minutes, and I'll say something totally different.

Wow, that is a really tough question!! I'm going to say Bohemaian Rhapsody by Queen. Something for everyone in that song! Right now I'm enjoying running to Lady Gaga and Rihanna, but those will get old soon I think.

Oh oh oh! I want one of these. I have been thinking about hammering my Shuffle so that I could upgrade.

Only one song? Gimme Shelter by the Rolling Stones. The Stones aren't even my favorite, that will always be Bruce Springsteen, but Gimme Shelter is the best song ever.

The current one I must listen to over and over while running is Dog Days are Over by Florence + the Machine!

Oooohhhh I hope I win this one!!!

Ummm I'm pretty sure I couldn't only listen to just one song for the rest of my life, but whenever 'sexyback' by JT comes on during a run I get a little extra hop in my step. :)

'More than a Feeling' by Boston if I had to pick one.

Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber!

My current one and it's totally not me at all but I heard it while running my first half marathon in five years was Lady GaGa's "Born this Way" because YES I was meant to run!

"Existentialism on Prom Night" by Straylight Run. Totally not a running song, but it was our wedding song....and makes me emotional every time I hear it. I sing it as a lullabye to both kids. It just makes me happy to be alive. :-D

Wow this is really hard to answer, but I guess it would have to be Constantly by Cross Canadian Ragweed. This was our wedding song. Love this song.

Probably "Wave on Wave" by Pat Green.

I would have to say "And When She Danced" by David Foster.

I love this question. I keep trying to think of something funny to say, but I have to be honest and say that the song that makes me happy when I run is Sunny with a High of 75 by Reliant K.
I appreciated Dan's video and so did Rocky.

I think it would probably be The Blues Walk by Lyle Lovett - it makes me want to dance.

Ooh! Good question! Off the top of my head, I'd say Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd. :)

Tough to answer-music changes with my mood. Toss up between Landing in London -3 Doors Down and or Take Back Yesterday -Circle II Circle

Hi Laurie,

For me, that one song would be Journey's "Dont' Don't Stop Believin'" - because
it's just an amazing motivator and because it's a great pick me up!

One running song forever? All Fired Up - Pat Benatar... I know, I'm weird.

Not necessarily restricted to just a workout running song, but Billy Joel's Piano Man has just so much depth that it can last me an entire lifetime! lol

Mine is "Embraceable You" by Chris Botti (heart drops every time)

Just one song ... this is hard! My gut tells me it would be Michael Buble's "Everything". It makes me happy. It is sweet. It makes me smile and I can't help but sing along. So Buble wins this round!

Wow-that is a toughie! I tend to have songs that I love for years and then just can't stand them much anymore. Not sure what that says about me.....
Anyway, if I had to pick I'd say it would be either White Sandy Beach of Hawaii by Iz or Forty Mile Town by Eric Johnson. Which is kind of funny because I haven't listened to either of those songs in a long long time!

This is how crazy I am...on my 3-5 mile runs, I listen to the same song over and over and over again. Just depends on my mood that day as to which song I choose. I would say my very favorite song is #41 by Dave Matthews Band :)

I would listen to "Love Story(Where do I Begin)" from Andy Williams. <3 His voice is beautiful.

I don't think I could ever pick just one song! Coldplay? or Mumford & Sons? I just don't know!!!

Dick said...

I wasn't going to enter because I know I can't win because I'm your dad, but I decided to anyway. My choice is one that I fried more than a few brain cells to... Paul McCartney & Wings "Let Me Roll It."

One song . . . that's tough. I think I'd have to go with "Livin' on a Prayer" by Bon Jovi.

While my taste has changed slightly I would still pick You Are Beautiful by James Blunt especially if I am having a rather hard time of it.

Don't Stop Believin'. I feel like such a nerd for posting that, but I love it and it puts me in a great mood every time I hear it.

Hmm, It would definitely be a Pearl Jam song. I guess I will go with Porch. Saw Eddie Vedder perform it live on Friday and it was awesome:)
