Quite the road trip...

and we aren't even half way there!  So, shortly after I put up my super awesome giveaway post (that you should enter if you haven't already, just go HERE) we (the kids and I... Dan is home earning the money that we use to buy gas to put in our car so we can go on vacations, poor guy) picked up my mom, my aunt and my grandma and headed off on our big vacation of the summer.  The final destination is St. George, UT... currently we are staying the night in Fallon, NV.  It has been a long day.

The plan was to leave town when my mom got off work at noon.  We left about 1:15.  Somewhere around 1:40 I got a call from Emme's doctor saying that her strep culture (she has had some weird rash for about 2 weeks) came back positive.  A quick turn around to head back to the pharmacy, a long wait for the Rx, a stop to pick up a mini ice chest and some ice and we left for the 2nd time... close to 3 hours behind our original schedule.  No worries.  It just meant the kids had been sitting in the car for close to 2 hours and we hadn't even gotten 2 miles closer to our destination.  Jonny had taken his nap and was ready to be out of the car... ha ha, joke was on him he would get to sit, sit, sit until he had a poopy diaper that made us pull over... ha ha joke was on us.

After about 3 hours we stopped in Susanville, CA to have dinner and let the kids play at the playland.  I changed 3 more poopy diapers and Emme started feeling sick.  After she spent an eternity in the bathroom we were on our way again.  Jonny went in and out of being asleep, being happy and crying his head off.  Calvin and Leona decided they were too hot to wear their shirts.  My mom, aunt and grandma remained quite stoic, Emme complained more about not feeling well and I drove, drove, drove. Then I missed a turn into our gas station and pulled a nice U-turn in a spot where I'm pretty sure they weren't legal.  I figured if I got pulled over I'd plead "out of state innocence" and hope that that (along with a car full of sick and crying kids) would be enough to get me a sympathy pass.  Luckily no one saw though.

Needless to say, when we pulled into the motel/casino shortly before 10:30pm we were all quite relieved.  As soon as Calvin found his shirt and Leona one of her shoes (the other is still missing) we headed to the room... where Emme proceeded to throw up all over the carpet.  We apologized profusely to the lady who came to clean up what we couldn't but she assured us she had seen much, much worse.  She then proceeded to describe some very lovely things to my mom... stuff that no one should ever have to clean up (or hear about) and tried to get us a different room, but by that point I had two kids bathed and Emme was basically asleep so we stuck with the pukey room.

It is now 11:40pm.  The girls and Jonny are asleep in my room and my mom, aunt and grandma have Calvin sleeping in their room.  Tomorrow is a new day, it will bring sunshine, better feeling kids and only 7 more hours of driving.  :)  Vacation here we come.  Happy Weekend!!

Wow! You are so ambitious! I have a fantasy of doing a road trip w/ my kids this summer... hoping to make that fantasy a reality :P But I would have NO other adults with me... so...

I hope the rest of the trip is less ... ummm... eventful :)

So sorry the kids are not feeling well. Just think the worst is over and the rest of the trip/vacation is all up hill from here. Thanks for the update. Enjoy your day.
