We are the Portland, the Portland Timbers...

We are mental and we are green.
We are the greatest football supporters
the world has ever seen. Go Timbers!!

I'm not sure that it is much of a secret, but we are pretty big soccer fans here in our house. We love little kiddie soccer, we've been known to get up extra early to watch certain European matches (well, usually that is just Dan), we cheer big time for the US National team and we definitely have a weak spot for MLS.  Most importantly though, we are huge fans of the newest MLS team, our very own Portland Timbers!!

On Saturday, Dan, Calvin and Emme had the opportunity to go to Portland to take in the Timbers match against the Columbus Crew.  Going to the game itself would have ben pretty awesome for the kids, but we got their tickets through Kidsports (the organization that they play soccer for) and it provided them the opportunity to participate in the Dream Team where they walked out on the field with a player.  It was awesome!!  I was watching at home on the computer and was lucky enough to get these screen shots of my kiddos:

Calvin walking with Crew Captain, Chad Marshall

Emme escorting Portland's Kalif Alhassan
Not only did they get to escort the players out on the field while wearing a Timbers Jersey, they also got to stand with them during the National Anthem.  Here are the pics Dan captured:
Emme is in the middles with the white socks.

Calvin is to the left of #14, behind the ref
Even though the game didn't start until 8pm, well after their bedtime, they had an amazing time.  They sang right along with the Timbers Army and were quite happy with the 1-0 victory.

Well, they might have gotten a little bored worn out... good thing for   'Timbers Axe'

It was an amazing night for the three of them (Dan is really just a big kid... especially when it comes to soccer) and I'm sure they'll remember it forever.  The best part is they got to keep the jerseys that they wore out on the field, which being youth XL sized means I just scored two new jerseys they can wear them for a really looooooong time!

Oh how cool!! I was in Portland this weekend and saw Timbers merchandise EVERYWHERE! I had no idea they were a legit MLS team until then. I watched the end of it on TV and it sure looked exciting. I bet that is going to be an experience your kids will talk about for the rest of their lives!

Watching this video of Noni about a dozen times has really been the medicine I need. It didn't make my headache go away but it sure took my mind off it for awhile. Thanks for posting and keep them coming.

How fun! What an honor to walk out with our Columbus Crew captain Chad Marshall! :-) I am not a huge soccer fan but I do enjoy taking in a Crew game every summer. It just seems like it is the right thing to do. Soccer= summer, right? Enjoy those Timbers, but let's go CREW!
