Racing Potatoes & Easter Too

Last night we went to the "First Annual Potato Derby" at our church.  It was a lot of fun.  The premise:  bring stuff to carve & decorate a potato...the potato, wheels and track to be provided.  There were two awards (big trophies...much to Calvin's amazement), one for the fastest derby car and the other for the "best looking".   It was pretty amazing, the track went from the basketball hoop down and across the length of the gym.  There were four lanes and they divided the potatoes into brackets...it was quite professional.  Anyway, here are the pictures documenting the adventure:

Our potato cars:  from left to right
Dan's "Baldy" a no-frills, heavy & fast car, Calvin's "Lightning McQueen",
and Emme & My "Flower Mobile"
this is a picture of one of Baldy's heats...he won all of his heats, but had to win the final one twice and ended up finishing second overall...pretty impressive
(apparently Dan has a pretty impressive pinewood derby resume)
Well, we didn't win the trophy for overall speed, but we did win for overall beauty.
The Flower Mobile held her own and made us proud (and a little surprised too)
Calvin was soooooo excited to win a trophy (even if it wasn't his car)
He thought he won the "Piston Cup" and couldn't have been more excited...
here he is sleeping with the trophy...
Here he is this morning...looking for Easter goodies....still holding the trophy

And, for your viewing pleasure, here are some pictures from Easter.  We didn't get a chance to take "dressy" pictures before church, and Leona fell asleep after church, so I don't have any of all three kids together in their "duds" but if you scroll down fast enough, you can pretend they are all together...
that's right...still proud of that trophy...

I hope that everyone had a happy Easter.  I'm actually looking forward to starting the week.  I've been running early in the morning, which has been working quite well (most mornings)... I'll have to blog more about that another time.  Right now, it's bedtime for my littlest one (she's been "helping" with this post, so please excuse the typos/rambling)...

That is so sweet Calvin taking that trophy all around, even to bed! I love it! Happy Easter. :)

Great pictures and they all look like little angels dressed for church. That is so cool. I remember a Christmas picture of Papa and we had a new baby but instead of holding him Papa was holding a new socket set. Boys love their toys and trophies. Nothing wrong with being proud of your accomplishments. Way to go Emme and Calvin.
